UB What's Next

So the Gill Era is over what's next?

1) Coach

Coach Gill proved that one can win in Buffalo...however, we still lack tradition, and facilities to really compete in D-1 football.  We have too much momentum however to start from scratch so I argue we stay in house and promote Offensive Coordinator Danny Barrett to coach.  He has 6 years professional Head Coaching experience in the CFL and has been the most successful Offensive Coordinator in UB history.

2) Facilities
UB needs to build a stadium and facilities that will allow us to make the next step in our football program.  The current plan looks like this:

Akron's new stadium looks like thies:

This concerns me as its only logical for your plans to be the best in your conference, but our future plans are to continue for us to have the 13th best facilities in the MAC, but to close the gap between us and #12...John Simpson step yo game up.

4) Conference
MAC - We are not an automatic qualifier, and we will never be able to bring in top recruits or retain a coach until we have a legitimate chance to be a major NCAA team.  However, Buffalo was 3-5 in conference, so if we can continue to improve and begin to dominate the conference as Central Michigan has, I think the fans and alumni will be happy.

Big 10
Joe Pa wants 12 teams.  Buffalo is a natural fit, a big city in a big state and conveniently located between Michigan, Ohio St and Penn st.  It also isn't very good in football, giving those teams a much needed extra win in their schedules.  Big 10 participation hasn't really helped Indiana, Northwestern,  Illinois and the other teams in the conference become better teams.  I think we would become the Baylor of the Big 10, and we have already suffered through enough beat downs for a lifetime.

Big East
The Big East is a great place for Buffalo, they have 8 teams currently, with Charlotte looking to be the 9th, Buffalo could be the 10th. The Big East would allow Buffalo to play rivals such as UConn, Rutgers, Pitt and Syracuse every year.  Also, the Big East is a proven source of school mobility.  UConn, Rutgers, West Virginia and USF have had great seasons and Cincinnati is an undefeated national champion contender.  Buffalo should try to claw their way into the Big East at all costs.
